My shop spans my entire length and
about half the width of the basement. I
have a lumber room in the back next
to the furnace. It's not in the ideal spot
since in theory the heat from the
furnace can cause the wood to dry
prematurally and crack but I haven't
had any problem with that since I've
had it stored in there. I've been
fortunate enough to have it featured in
the website forum Wood Central
Shop Shots. I'm also going to have
my tool cabinet featured in an
upcoming issue of Wood magazine
America's Top Shops. My next big
purchase will be a new Saw Stop
table saw. I've been waiting three
years for the contractor saw to come
out and it finally has. Now I just need
to find the cash.
I desperately need a new workbench and
have just acquired an Emmert pattern
maker's Vise so a new bench is not far away.
Once the new bench has been created I will
upload pictures. I may even upload pictures
of it in the process of being built. Some
people feel that a pattern maker vise is
overkill for cabinet making work but since it
was too good of deal to pass up, I might as
well put it to use. Plus Sam Maloof has been
using one for decades so if it's good enough
for him it's certainly good enough for me,.

My tool cabinet is probably the
most impressive thing in my shop.
Built out of red oak and walnut, it
holds about 300 tools with over 100
of them being antique. I love
working with old antique tools. For
me using an old tool is like working
side by side with my ancestors,
holding the tool the way they did
experiencing the same feeling they
had when they used the tool over a
hundred years ago. Along with the
old tools I have stored in my
cabinet, I also have a shelf that
houses nearly 80 wooden molding
planes next to my bench. I'm
continuing to add to my collection of
molding planes when I find ones
that have unique profiles that can't
be reproduced with router bits.
